
MUMBAI : The Inter Co-op. Bank Chess Competition sponsored by Co-operative Bank Employees Union, Mumbai and Bima Kamgar Co-operative Bank Limited was won by Manas Sawant of Municipal Bank, the first seed, for the second time in a row. Manas Sawant made aggressive moves against Aditya Joshi of MSC Bank with the help of elephant and king and in the ninth minute, Manas defeated Aditya’s king and won the championship. As a result, Aditya Joshi had to be content with the final runner-up position. The prize distribution ceremony of the competition was held in the presence of Union President Anandrao Adsul, Working President Sunil Salvi, Treasurer Pramod Parte, Co-Treasurer Janardhan More and other office bearers, Shiv Chhatrapati Award winner Leeladhar Chavan etc.
In the third place match, Vinod More of NKGSB Bank won in the 28th minute after a tough battle against Sachin Katkar of Mumbai Bank. Riyal Jawkar of NKGSB Bank, Umesh Bhoir of Deccan Mercantile Bank, Sanjay Satam of Municipal Bank, and Somnath Swami of MSC Bank won the quarter-final runner-up title. The competition was held at the CBEU auditorium in Dadar-West with the participation of 40 chess players from cooperative banks of various districts of Maharashtra. FIDE arbitrator Vishal Madhav and assistant Omkar Chavan supervised the work of the umpire. Union general secretary Narendra Sawant, Hasham Dhamskar, Prakash Waghmare, Manohar Darekar, Rajesh Kamble, Amul Prabhu, Bhargav Dhargalkar, Ashok Navale, Sameer Tulskar, Praveen Shinde, Amresh Thakur and other office bearers were working to make the competition a success.
