FIRE ONBOARD IFB EKVIRA MAULI

Firefighting efforts lasted for about 02 hrs and the ship successfully extinguished the fire utilising the ship’s firefighting capabilities.

MUMBAI : At about 0635 hrs on 28 Feb 25, Indian Coast Guard Ship Savitribai Phule patrolling off Maharashtra coast observed thick smoke emanating on the horizon. The ship immediately proceeded towards the smoke with maximum speed. On arrival at datum at 0715 hrs, the ship noticed one IFB namely Ekvira Mauli (IND-MH-3-MM-4922) engulfed in an inferno and thick smoke emanating from it. Post assessment of the situation, the ship responded swiftly and assisted in shifting of 14 fishermen from the distressed IFB to IFB Dhana Laxmi. The fishermen were treated for their burn injuries, provided with succor and were reassured of their safety. Master of the distressed IFB reported that fire had occurred onboard in the engine room at 0500 hrs on 28 Feb 25.

Simultaneously, ICGS Savitribai Phule commenced firefighting efforts onboard the distressed IFB. Firefighting efforts lasted for about 02 hrs and the ship successfully extinguished the fire utilising the ship’s firefighting capabilities.

Subsequently, the ship coordinated for stabilising the distressed IFB by pumping out water and towing it to nearest harbour. At 0955 hrs IFB Kalamba Mauli (IND-MH-06-MM-8324) commenced towing the distressed IFB towards Alibaug harbour under escort of another IFB Kalyani (IND-MH-3-MM-3959).
