International Childhood Cancer Day Was Observed with the Launch of the Grow Green Initiative

MUMBAI RMN.IN(E): On the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day, Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital, Mumbai, organised a special awareness and engagement event. The initiative aimed to celebrate the remarkable courage and determination of children battling cancer while reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment, and holistic care.

The event, themed ‘Power Champs > Cancer: From Challenge to Change’, reflected the spirit that strength is greater than illness and highlighted the inspiring journeys of young champions. Designed as a morning of solidarity and celebration, the programme created a warm and inclusive space within the hospital lobby, where young cancer warriors, families, doctors, caregivers, donors, and partner organisations came together in unity and hope.

Speaking about the event, Dr Purna Kurkure, Senior Consultant & HOD – Paediatric Oncology, Haemato-Oncology and BMT, said, “Childhood cancer is highly curable when diagnosed early and treated appropriately with the right multidisciplinary approach. Through initiatives like this, we aim not only to raise awareness but also to celebrate the courage of our patients, who inspire us every day with their strength and determination.”

The event also featured donor felicitation, a lamp-lighting ceremony, and therapeutic engagements such as dance therapy by the Mumbai Art & Health Festival, book-reading sessions by the Max Foundation, and a magic show designed to uplift young patients.

One of the most impactful moments of the programme brought the theme ‘Power Champs > Cancer: From Challenge to Change’ to life through heartfelt stories shared by parents and childhood cancer survivors, who spoke about their journeys of patience, hope, and transformation. Building on these powerful narratives, a special pledge ceremony followed, where doctors, families, and attendees collectively reaffirmed their commitment to courage, early detection, compassionate care, and continued support for every child’s journey toward recovery.
Aligned with the hospital’s commitment to sustainability, the event also marked the launch of the Grow Green Initiative, reinforcing the message that caring for children’s health and caring for the planet go hand in hand.

As part of this ongoing initiative, children were given a specially curated Grow Green Plant Kit, which included a manual and planting guidelines. Each kit carried a QR code that participants could scan to register for the initiative. Children were encouraged to plant the sapling, nurture it as it grows, and share a photograph once it matures. Upon completion, they will receive a certificate recognising their contribution.

The initiative will continue beyond the event, encouraging sustained participation and long-term engagement. It aims to raise awareness among children about environmental responsibility while symbolising growth, hope, and renewal.

Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital, Mumbai, continued to play a leading role in advancing paediatric cancer care through clinical excellence, patient-centric support systems, and community-driven awareness initiatives.
