Fire Safety Should Not Be Just for Certificates; Continuous Preparedness Needed: Madhuri Misal

MUMBAI : RMI.INĀ  : India should not just adopt global fire and security technologies, but develop indigenous technologies and take them to the world, said Pankaj Bhoyar HON’BLE MINISTER OF STATE, HOME (RURAL), HOUSING, MINING, COOPERATION & SCHOOL EDUCATION Govt of Maharashtra.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the 9th Fire & Security India Expo (FSIE) 2026 in Mumbai.

Dr. Bhoyar said, through Make in India and Startup India, India should move from buying technology to creating technology for the world. He emphasized making the fire safety ecosystem more self-reliant. He said, “Development and security must go hand in hand. As India and Maharashtra progress, our responsibility must also increase. Every building, workplace and public space should be built keeping citizens’ safety first.”

Smt. Madhuri Misal, Minister of State for Urban Development, Transport, Social Justice, Medical Education and Minority Development, said fire safety should not be treated as a mere compliance after a building is completed. It must be an integral part from the design and construction stage itself.”Fire safety cannot be limited to just installing a fire extinguisher or getting a Fire NOC. It requires regular inspection, testing and maintenance throughout the building’s lifecycle,” she said.

She called for moving from a certificate-based approach to a continuous safety approach.FSAI National President Ms. Rakhi Deepak said safety is a collective responsibility and FSIE brings government, industry and technology together for a safer India.
