A one-of-its-kind facility offering holistic, affordable, and multidisciplinary care for children and young adults with cerebral palsy and neuromuscular disorders

Mumbai,(RMN.IN): SRCC Children’s Hospital, managed by Narayana Health, Mumbai, has inaugurated the Dr. P. K. Mullaferoze Memorial Centre for Cerebral Palsy in honour of Mumbai’s first female orthopaedic surgeon late Dr Perin Kavasji Mullaferoze, who worked tirelessly to treat children with Cerebral Palsy. This first-of-its-kind specialized centre will provide comprehensive, compassionate, and transdisciplinary care for children and young adults with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders—all under one roof.
Located on the premises of SRCC Children’s Hospital, managed by Narayana Health, Mumbai, this specialized centre aims to bridge the gap in long-term, multidisciplinary management for children with cerebral palsy by integrating medical, social, and rehabilitative services tailored to every patient’s unique needs. The services will be made affordable and accessible to patients from all socio-economic backgrounds.
Dr Perin Kavasji Mullaferoze was a pioneering woman orthopaedic surgeon in India and the first of her kind in Mumbai, who devoted her life to serve differently-abled children, notably those with cerebral palsy and related disabilities. She was the orthopaedic surgeon and medical director of the former Children’s Orthopaedic Hospital, where SRCC Children’s Hospital, managed by Narayana Health, Mumbai, stands today. The hospital had gained national and international recognition due to the dedication and expertise of Dr Mullaferoze. She was instrumental in introducing innovative methods to treat cerebral palsy. In 1963, she initiated the Cerebral Palsy Unit as a pilot specialised treatment project, involving a team of medical experts.
The newly launched Dr. P. K. Mullaferoze Memorial Centre brings together a team of specialists from orthopaedics, neurology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, developmental paediatrics, psychology, and social work to provide coordinated, dedicated, and comprehensive care. This collaborative approach ensures not only medical management but also rehabilitation, education support, family counselling, and long-term improvement in quality of life for patients.
