मुंबई NHI24.COM(M) i: Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, Mumbai, has partnered with Medtronic India to launch a specialized Renal Denervation Therapy Centre dedicated to the treatment of resistant hypertension. This new centre is designed to help patients whose blood pressure remains high despite taking multiple medications. With advanced interventional technology, expert teams, and structured care pathways, the hospital aims to offer comprehensive and long-term blood pressure management. The facility will provide detailed evaluation, patient counselling, medication optimisation, and access to renal denervation therapy for eligible patients. By combining clinical expertise with modern technology, the centre seeks to improve outcomes and reduce the risk of heart, brain, and kidney complications linked to uncontrolled hypertension.
The centre will be led by eminent experts, including Dr Rahul Gupta, Director Cardiologist, and Dr Bharat Shah, Director Nephrologist , Dr V M Reddy Sr Consultant Cardiologist , Dr Prashant Rajput Sr Consultant Nephrologist . With their combined expertise in cardiac and kidney care, the centre will ensure comprehensive and specialised management for patients with resistant hypertension.
Hypertension cases are steadily rising due to modern lifestyles, high stress levels, unhealthy diets, lack of exercise, and increasing obesity. The need for early diagnosis and sustained management has become more urgent than ever. Symptoms such as persistent headaches, dizziness, chest discomfort, breathlessness, or blurred vision are often ignored until complications arise. Hypertension is one of the leading causes of premature death worldwide and remains a major contributor to heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and other cardiovascular complications in India. Despite the availability of medications, many patients struggle to keep their blood pressure under control due to delayed diagnosis, irregular follow-ups, poor awareness, stress, obesity, high salt intake, and sedentary lifestyles. In some cases, blood pressure remains high even after taking multiple medications, a condition known as resistant hypertension.
Through this dedicated Renal Denervation Therapy Centre, Gleneagles Hospital aims to strengthen the management of complex and resistant hypertension by offering structured evaluation, coordinated care pathways, and personalised treatment plans. The centre brings together cardiologists, nephrologists, and internal medicine specialists to ensure holistic and long-term management for patients with difficult-to-control blood pressure. With strong clinical expertise, modern technology, and continuous medical training, the team will also focus on patient education, lifestyle counselling, medication optimisation, and regular follow-up. The goal is to help patients achieve sustained blood pressure control and reduce the risk of serious heart, brain, and kidney complications such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney damage, and vision loss.
Dr Rahul Gupta, Director and Cardiologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, said,“Resistant hypertension is often silent but extremely dangerous because it increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure. Many patients believe they are on treatment, yet their blood pressure remains uncontrolled. The introduction of renal denervation therapy offers an additional option for carefully selected patients whose blood pressure does not respond to medicines alone. At Gleneagles Hospital, our goal is to provide a comprehensive approach that combines lifestyle guidance, optimal medication, and advanced interventional therapies to achieve sustained blood pressure control and reduce long-term complications.”
Dr Bharat Shah, Nephrologist at Gleneagles Hospital, added, “Uncontrolled hypertension not only affects the heart but also has a serious impact on kidney health. Long-standing high blood pressure can gradually damage kidney function and may even lead to chronic kidney disease. The establishment of this specialized centre allows us to identify high-risk patients early and provide structured, multidisciplinary care. Renal denervation therapy can play an important role in selected patients by targeting overactive nerves that contribute to high blood pressure. This integrated model will help improve outcomes and prevent long-term organ damage.”
“Hypertension management continues to be challenged by delayed diagnosis, fragmented care, and inconsistent follow up. Partnering with Medtronic enables Gleneagles Hospital to adopt a more structured and coordinated approach to resistant hypertension by integrating clinical expertise, advanced technology, and patient centric care pathways. This collaboration is focused on achieving long term blood pressure control and reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications, ultimately improving outcomes for patients with resistant hypertension,” concluded Dr Bipin Chevale, CEO, Gleneagles Hospital.
Speaking on the partnership, Mandeep Singh Kumar, Managing Director & Vice President, Medtronic India said, “Resistant hypertension remains a growing and often unrecognized challenge in cardiovascular care, and its rising burden underscores the urgent need to reevaluate how care is delivered. Our partnership with Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai is focused on delivering real-world impact by working closely with its clinical teams to strengthen awareness and to enable a more coordinated, structured approach to its diagnosis and management. This collaboration aims to support improved blood pressure control and better long-term outcomes for patients with complex and resistant hypertension. At Medtronic, our mission is to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life, and collaborations like this are central to that commitment.”
