Some close encounters were witnessed in the Professional singles and doubles categories of the 32nd G.D. Birla Memorial Open Veteran Masters Inter-Club Badminton Tournament, promoted by Badminton Gurukul, even as the top seeded players had it easy at the host club, Bombay Gymkhana, here, on Saturday.
The clash between Shailesh Joshi and Vivek Yadav turned out to be a thriller, with Joshi narrowly edging past his opponent 30-28. In the doubles category, the duo of Dattaram Radaye and Roshan Devlekar held their nerve in a closely contested match to defeat Chandrkumar Yadav and Sandesh More 30-27. Meanwhile, top seed Manoj Nachanekar, 2nd seed Chetan Bandarkar and 3rd seed Premal M Mankar advanced with easy wins.
In the men’s doubles 110+ category, Parthasarathi Patnaik and Rajiv Parekh won a close 30-28 over Ashish Kapila and Dr. Biml Parikj, while the pairs of Denzil Pereira/Rajesh Meshram and Ashish Hilekar/Milind Gharat advanced convincingly.
